Cardio-Pulmonary

Our Cardio-pulmonary program is coordinated by a masters prepared Cardio-pulmonary Clinical Specialist. High tech services provided through the cardio-pulmonary program include:

  • Ventricular Assist Devices: Our staff undergo specialized training at the UPMC Artificial Heart Program to provide optimal care and instruction to patients and caregivers.

  • Chest Drainage Systems such as PleurX pleural catheter, Mini-Sahara, Atrium Express

  • Intravenous Cardiac and Pulmonary Medications: Our Infusion team collaborates with the UPMC Cardiovascular Institute and the Pulmonary Hypertension Program to provide state-of- the-art infusions at home such as Flolan and Remodulin.

  • Tracheostomies/Laryngectomies and/or Ventilator Dependent: Our staff provide education and teaching in collaboration with DME to patients and caregivers.

Infusion/Oncology

Our Infusion/Oncology program is lead by a masters prepared Oncology Specialty Clinician. Our staff attend advanced IV education as well as the Foundations to Oncology, Comprehensive Chemotherapy and Stem Cell transplant classes at UPMC Cancer Centers. High tech services for both adult and pediatrics include:

  • IV fluids as well as antibiotic, antifungal and antiviral therapy

  • Total Parenteral Nutrition

  • Insertion/maintenance of a peripheral line for administration of IV medications, e.g. Solu-Medrol.

  • Inotropic agents in the home e.g. Dobutamine, Milrinone, Flolan, Remodulin, including subcutaneous infusions

  • Cath Flo Activase

  • Blood product derivatives e.g. Factor 8, albumin

  • Investigational drugs

  • IV pain management e.g. IV Morphine infusion, PCA pump, including subcutaneous infusions

  • Enzyme replacement therapy such as Prolastin, Zemaira, Fabrazyme

  • Chemotherapy infusion at home

  • Plasmapheresis catheter care

  • Care of patients who are actively receiving treatment (Chemotherapy, Stem Cell Transplant) for hematological malignancy e.g. Lymphoma, Leukemia, Multiple Myeloma.
